National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) signed a memorandum of cooperation with The SUPPORT Arts and Crafts International Centre of Thailand (SACICT) last year to open up a new southbound cultural exchange and business opportunities.

In addition to exchange the experience and knowledge of craftsmen with each other, the two countries also use international exhibitions as a platform for the exhibition of products and commercial orders. The CRAFTS BANGKOK 2019 will be held at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre.

Xu, Geng-Xiu, director of NTCRI, said he found that the business opportunities in e-commerce is flourishing, especially the online community which shows a strong influence.

Therefore, the strategy adopted this year is based on the O2O marketing model, using the exhibition as a stepping stone to open the market, and then using the online sales to drive offline purchases.

The strategy is to cooperate with Asia's largest design e-commerce, Pinkoi which has 12,000 cooperative brands. NTCRI enters Thailand market with Taiwan's “original design” craftsmanship.

NTCRI will also cooperate with Taiwan External Trade Development Council to conduct its offline channel expansion strategy to gain access to the Thai boutique department store leader, The Mall Group. As to the high-end market expansion, this year, the Institute will plan to enter the famous Thai Arts And Crafts Auction Center and Southeast Asian Cultural Exchange Center at Chao Phraya River to fully promote the craft industry to the Thai market.

The six arts and crafts manufacturers who joined the exhibition in Thailand this year, including “Taiping Blue” who won the Grand Jury Prize of “International Furniture Fair Singapore”; “Tian Guan Silver Cap” whose design concept is based on “God's Fashion” and has represented Taiwan in the exhibition of Louvre in Paris, France. “Tian Guan Silver Cap” transform the traditional god’s hat into a fashion craft, and the silver jewelry designed based on religious culture embodies the unique style of the traditional craft; “Eguchi Toys” who turned light-colored pine into a dynamic bird, developed various original Montessori teaching hand crafts; “Good Gold”, who has shifted to cultural and creative industry from a traditional manufacturing factory, uses discarded steel to create a variety of carved works; “Hsiao-Meng Su metalwork creation”, who utilizes copper, enamel and a variety of metal materials to create metalwork with light and shadow.
