With key partners UNHCR, UNICEF, UNDP and NAMA-UN Women, IIFMENA 2018 will shed the spotlight on ways governments, civil society, international organisations, academia, private sector can collaborate to involve the region’s youth more effectively in consultative, policy- and decision-making processes, enabling a more inclusive and participatory approach to tackling challenges and offering practical, scalable solutions.

It is the first time since the 25-year-old Iraqi human rights activist has received the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize that she will be making a formal public appearance in Sharjah, UAE, at the IIFMENA 2018 being held under the theme, ‘Youth – Crisis Challenges and Development Opportunities’, and organised by the UAE-based global humanitarian organisation, The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF).

The young author of The Last Girl: My Story of Captivity, and My Fight Against the Islamic State, says: “I am honoured to be part of an initiative that seeks to address the plight of the youth in the MENA region and is bringing together global leaders and experts to combat the youth crises here. I look forward to the opportunity to use this global stage to reach out to millions of young people, just like me, who are victims of war, violence and brutality and give them hope for a better future by sharing my story with them. If I could make it, so can they.”
